SCHOOL-BASED PROGRAM

Dental Screenings – Since 1955, the Center’s licensed and registered dental hygienists have been screening children’s teeth in the Clay County schools.*  A dental screening is a non-invasive procedure consisting of a visual inspection of the teeth and surrounding tissue looking for obvious defects or abnormalities.  A card is sent home with each child stating the results of the screening.

*screenings are also provided at the health center for those children that were absent, have moved into the county after the screening was done at their school, or the child is home-schooled.  Call for dates and time.

Education Programs – are provided for grades K – 5 during the spring semester.  Each grade receives a different program.  Lecture and a variety of visual aids are used.  Topics include:  tooth development and anatomy, nutrition, accident prevention, orthodontics, smokeless tobacco, preventive home care.  Tooth brushing and flossing are stressed for each grade.
