A monoclonal antibody injection (not a vaccine) is available at the health department for children under 8 months old and high-risk children aged 8 months to 19 months. Protection lasts for about 5 months so plan to get your infant's injection close to the beginning of RSV season (October-March).
Infants whose mothers got the RSV vaccine during pregnancy are not recommended to get the antibody injection unless the infant is at very high risk.

Updated 10/30/2025
Clay County Public Health Center will resume COVID vaccination on Nov. 5, 2025. Appointments are now available, call 816-595-4355 to schedule.
To be eligible:
- Must be 65+ years old OR
- Between the ages of 6 months - 65 years with a specific risk factor AND complete shared clinical decision making.*
*What does this mean?
Shared Clinical Decision Making (SCDM) is required for anyone ages 6 months to 64 years before receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. This just means a discussion with a qualified healthcare provider (like the health center's immunizations nurses, who are Registered Nurses) about the risks and benefits of the vaccine for that person. It’s also a good idea to talk with your personal healthcare provider to decide if the COVID-19 vaccine is right for you.
People under 65 must also have a health condition that increases their risk for severe COVID-19 to receive the vaccine. The list of qualifying conditions can be found here: Underlying Conditions and Higher Risk for Severe COVID-19 | CDC. We do not require medical documentation to prove risk factors. People can simply confirm their own eligibility (self-attest).
What if I don't qualify?
Giving the vaccine to someone without a qualifying risk factor would be considered off-label (according to FDA), which Clay County Public Health is not allowed to do. However, personal healthcare providers (like doctors or nurse practitioners) may be able to provide the vaccine off-label, so individuals who don’t qualify with us can check with their own provider.

Mpox vaccine is only for persons aged 18 years and older.
To be eligible for mpox vaccine, at least one of the following criteria must be met:
- Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men, transgender or nonbinary people who in the past 6 months had at least one of the following:
- A new diagnosis of 1 or more sexually transmitted infection
- More than one sex partner
- Sex at a commercial sex venue
- Sex in association with a large public event in a geographic area where mpox transmission is occurring
- Sexual partners of people with the risks described above
- People at risk of mpox during an mpox outbreak
- People who anticipate experiencing any of the above
A person who would be eligible for vaccination but has been diagnosed with mpox is not recommended to be vaccinated at this time, because mpox infection likely provides immune protection.
The JYNNEOS mpox vaccine is administered in a two dose series, given at least 28 days apart.
We have limited doses available for those 19 years and older, who are uninsured or with insurance that does not cover JYNNEOS vaccine. We also carry JYNNEOS for people 18 years and older with in-network commercial insurance or those who wish to pay out of pocket. We encourage you to check with your insurance carrier to confirm that Clay County Public Health Center is an in-network provider and that they cover the cost of JYNNEOS vaccine.
Some vaccines have limited quantities or may be temporary out of stock due to reasons outside our control. Please call 816-595-4355 to ask about our current availability.
