eWIC

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services' WIC program recently transitioned to an electronic benefit transfer (EBT) system called eWIC. This allows WIC participants to more easily access food benefits at the grocery store.

The rollout of the eWIC system began in Clay County in 2020.

Your eWIC Tips for Success

  • Protect your eWIC card – treat it like cash.
  • Keep your PIN secure – DO NOT write it on your card.
  • Only share your PIN with someone you trust to shop for you.
  • Call your local WIC office (816-595-4358) or the number on the back of your card (1-800-554-2544) immediately if your card is damaged, lost or stolen.
  • Your entire family’s benefits are loaded onto one card.
  • Like items are grouped together (ie., 8 gallons of low-fat milk for 2 children).
  • Purchase only what you need during your shopping trip. There’s no need to purchase multiple items at one once.
  • There’s no need to separate WIC items from your other purchases. Simply use your eWIC card before paying for your remaining items.
  • Benefits are only available for the current month and expire at midnight on the last day of the month. Unused benefits DO NOT carry over to the next month.
  • Your receipt will list your remaining benefits. Save your receipt or take a picture of it through the WICShopper app and save for later reference.
  • Cashiers cannot make any exceptions to the foods loaded on your eWIC card or override the system.
  • Review your receipt before pressing “Yes” to accept the transaction. If something looks incorrect, press “No” and work with the cashier to make sure it is correct. After pressing “Yes” there is no way to change the purchase.
